Tyre Maintenance
Tyres are the only point of contact between a vehicle and the road.
Keeping your vehicle’s tyres in good condition helps to:
- Guarantee safety.
- Ensure mobility.
- Improve your vehicle’s performance.
- Save fuel (especially at today’s prices, it’s not something we want to waste)
There are a number of good practices that we can follow and monitor:
- Tyre pressure. Due to the loads they carry, tyres can easily lose their optimum pressure.
- Tread wear and depth. Maintaining sufficient tread depth ensures good grip and traction.
- Valves and valve caps. Inflation valves can become loose over time, allowing air to escape and accelerating tyre wear.
- The quality of the air inside the tyres. Clean, dry air helps extend tyre life, while contaminated or moist air can damage the inner lining.
- Tyre cleaning. Washing tyres with warm water and soap helps prevent rubber deterioration and extends their service life.
- Wheel balancing. Proper balancing helps prevent premature tyre wear.
- Check the condition of the wheel seating every 5,000 km (or every 200 operating hours).
- Driving habits. Drivers who follow good driving practices, avoiding harsh acceleration, sudden braking and impacts with kerbs or sharp edges, and who keep their vehicles properly maintained can achieve up to twice the mileage from the same set of tyres.
